BIS Certification Mandatory on Machinery Items

Indian electrical market is majorly dependent on imports from China. Undeniably, Chinese goods are cheaper than anywhere in the world, but the reliability of the same is always a mystery. Some of them might work for years and years while others stop functioning within days or weeks.

However, the thing is not always about its life period, but more about the safety of the product. As the majority of the electrical equipment is manufactured in China, safety can also be a major problem with such products.

In order to protect customers from any such hazards and to slow down large scale machinery imports from China, the government has decided to mandate BIS certification for all such machinery and products before importing. Even if the product is tested in the home country, still it will be mandatory for the manufacturer to test the same in India and meet the desired quality standards set by BIS.

The move is going to fulfill two targets at the same time. The first is to reduce the usage of Chinese products in India whereas it will ensure that only high-quality products reach the Indian market. However, there is one negative impact of this decision. As the process is going to cost a lot of time and expense, it will be quite difficult for small and medium enterprises to follow the strict rules. Due to this reason, all such enterprises have not welcomed this move.

Apart from that, there has been a lot of protests from European Union trade partners as they have to go through the process all over again to attain the certification. Once everything is complete, all the items falling under the mandatory registration scheme cannot be imported, manufactured or sold in the Indian market before attaining the BIS Consultant India.

As the number of manufacturers connecting with BIS registration consultants and seeking certification will be increasing, the testing facilities need to be enhanced as well. To make things easier during the import, BIS is planning to deploy officers on the ports. These officers will take samples from the product directly from the port saving a lot of time and effort.

Undeniably, this is a great move to reduce the dependency on Chinese goods. Not only it will reduce the usage of such goods but will motivate local manufactures to step up and produce local goods which will boost the Indian economy and help the entire nation in growing.
