India Announced Star Labelling Norms for Tyres

The government of India takes all the measures for the safety of the citizens. The Bureau of Indian Standards has brought tyres under their mandatory registration scheme where every tyre manufacturer have to get certified from BIS Certification. Not only that, but they have also introduced a plan to have star labelling for every tyre on the basis of certain factors.

These star labelling will be based on three factors; fuel efficiency or rolling resistance, wet grip and noise. These three factors will be tested and the tyres will be given a star rating accordingly. The motive of this is to come at par with the European Standards that are considered highly safe and efficient.

The manufacturers introducing new tyre models have to comply with the new rules from October 2021 whereas the existing tyre models will have to do the same by October 2022.

Most of the Manufacturers selling tyres in India have their presence in European countries. As the star labelling of tyres in India is extremely similar to that of Europe, manufacturers will have no issue in complying with the new rules. India has the right infrastructure and equipment for testing and certification.

Why Star Labelling Tyres is a Good Move?

Customers Can Take Informed Decisions

Even though most of the customers are aware of which tyre size they need for their vehicle, it is still not clear about the other factors of the tyres as well. Tyres with a label according to their road grip, wet grip and rolling resistance, customers will have more information about the tyre they are going to buy and can make the right decision as per their needs. It will make it easier for them to make the right choice.

Better Road Safety

Tyres play a crucial role in avoiding road accidents. A large number of people lose their life due to road accidents in India. BIS certification of tyres will ensure that the tyres are safe for usage and can be trusted in certain situations. All such tyres will have better wet grip, road grip and lesser vehicle stopping distance for the safety of the consumer.

The Bureau of Indian Standards has made the right move to star label the tyres. The manufacturers can take aid from BIS consultants delhi in getting all information about the labelling and how they can comply with the BIS standards.
