How to Check the Authenticity of Product Bearing ISI Mark is Genuine?

For products sold in India, ISI mark is the sign of trust and superior quality. Many items require mandatory BIS certification which gives them ISI mark. Bureau of Indian Standards runs several tests on items before they grant ISI certification mark. Without a doubt, people prefer products with ISI mark as compared to items without any certification and the trust of this mark is the sole reason behind this choice.

Being a mark of trust, there are many stances where several entities have tried to create fake ISI marks or counterfeit with the registration marks to attain the trust of the buyers. Not only such entities are committing a severe crime, but they are putting several people at risk of using inferior quality products.
Before you buy any product with an ISI mark, it is essential to check whether the mark is genuine or fake.

1. Use of ISI Mark When you purchase any product with ISI mark, the first thing that you should find out is the mark itself. Many manufacturers attain registration mark for a specific part of the product but use it on the packaging which makes the buyer believe that the product is certified by BIS. Apart from that, there are manufacturers who instead of putting ISI mark, they write ‘as per ISI standards’ without putting the licence number or mark.

2. Licence Number Every BIS certified product will be given a licence number along with the mark. The 7-digit number will be unique for every product ensuring its authenticity and genuineness. Though some fraudsters can use random numbers on the fake ISI marks to pretend that they are genuine. However, customers can check the license number on the BIS website. If the number is authentic, then it will provide the details of the product. Having fake ISI certification mark is a serious crime that can attract huge fines. All you have to do is follow the above-mentioned steps to identify whether the mark is genuine or not. If you find any product with fake ISI mark, then wait no further and complain about the manufacturer to BIS.
